Reaction time challenge
Wait for green, then tap as fast as you can. Five rounds, about 60 seconds. Your score is the middle one, so a single lucky tap can't carry it.

TAP!
Five rounds. Tap the moment it turns green.
How it works
Tap the pad to start. It turns red.
Wait. After a random pause it turns green.
Tap the moment it turns green. Do that 5 times to get your score.
This challenge is for fun. It isn't a medical, cognitive or fitness assessment, and the result says nothing about your health or intelligence.
What it measures, and what it doesn't
The challenge measures simple reaction time: one signal, one response, nothing to decide. You know what's coming and what to do; you just don't know when. Your number covers the whole chain, from your eyes noticing the green to your finger landing, plus the time your screen, touchscreen or mouse and browser take.
How the score works
- Each run has five rounds. Before every green, the pad waits a random time between 1.5 and 4.5 seconds, so the rhythm can't be learned.
- The clock starts when the green is actually drawn on your screen, not when the game asks for it.
- Your score is your middle round, the median, so one lucky tap or one slow moment can't decide it. The result also shows your fastest round.
- Your best score is kept in this browser only, so you can try to beat it next time.
When a round doesn't count
Some rounds are repeated rather than scored, so a bad round can't spoil a run and a lucky one can't fake it.
- Tapping before the pad turns green is a false start. The round is repeated, and after five false starts the run begins again.
- A time under 100 ms is treated as a guess, since nobody reacts that fast, and the round is repeated.
- A time over 2 seconds doesn't count either, and the round is repeated.
- If the page loses focus or you switch tabs during a round, the round is repeated, because a background tab can't be timed fairly.
Getting a fair result
- Use the same device each time if you want to compare scores. A phone and a laptop add different delays.
- Play when you can watch the pad without interruptions, with notifications off.
- Keep your finger just above the screen, or rest it on the space bar on a computer.
- Wait for the green. Guessing only earns false starts.
Questions people ask
What's a good time?
Hair Trigger: 179 ms or less. Quick Draw: 180 to 229 ms. Right On Time: 230 to 289 ms. Cruise Control: 290 to 379 ms. Scenic Route: 380 ms or more.
Why is my time different on another device?
The number includes everything in the chain: your eye noticing the change, your brain deciding, your hand moving, and your device registering the tap. It also includes your screen and browser, which is why the same person scores differently on a laptop and a phone.
Why the middle round and not the average?
We use your middle round rather than your average, so one lucky tap or one lapse doesn't decide your score.
Is anything stored?
Your best time is kept in this browser only, so we can show it next time. Nothing is sent anywhere.
Can I use the keyboard?
Yes. The space bar works just like a tap or a click.
Why was one of my rounds repeated?
A round is repeated after a false start, a time under 100 ms or over 2 seconds, or if the page lost focus while the round was running. It keeps your score fair in both directions.
